Unfortunately, many physicians pretty much use exclusively hand sanitizer because they feel they don’t have time to wash their hands, much less wash them properly. When the residents are making rounds, there’s usually a whole group of them, and they DON’T take time to wash hands. Guess how many physicians I have witnessed NOT washing their hands after using the bathroom. And they use those same hands to open the bathroom door, and any other door on their way to where they’re going! In my experience, physicians are some of the WORST at consistently washing their hands properly
If applied correctly it works well. Soap and water works well if you apply FRICTION, use soap and warm water and dry hands thoroughly. Thought this for years. But isogel is the thing. Unless “visibly soiled”. Well duh what bright person got paid for this article. Hand Sanitizer is not meant to completely substitute for washing your hands. For use when lightly soiled, no running water is available situations. Refer to manufacture directions.
